Mavidon updates recall of skin prep lotion after bacterial contamination found - Becker's Hospital Review

Mavidon is updating a worldwide recall of its skin prepping lotions to include all lots of the products after discovering a bacterial contamination that could cause life-threatening infections.

Mavidon, a Riviera Beach, Fla.-based medical devicemaker, warned hospitals and clinics Jan. 8 to stop using its LemonPrep, Pedia Prep, Wave Prep, Cardio Prep products, which are abrasive skin prepping lotions used to remove oils and skin residue on patients.

The products have the potential to be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia, a multidrug resistant pathogenic microorganism. The bacteria can lead to serious infections and may be life-threatening for both immunocompromised patients as well as those who were previously healthy.

Mavidon has received one report of an adverse event in an infant due to bacterial contamination.

Hospitals and clinics should immediately stop using the products and quarantine them.
